PRISHTINA, BELGRADE -- Canada’s ambassador to Serbia Robert McDougal says his country supports Kosova’s supervised independence.
However, after a meeting with ORA party president and negotiating team member Veton Surroi in Priština Tuesday, McDougal added Canada will be in no rush to unilaterally recognize Kosova’s independence, should the UN Security Council fail to pass a new resolution.
“My country does not make hasty decisions on such complicated issues. All I can say is that we are monitoring the situation carefully,” McDougal told journalists in Priština.
Finland supports Kosova plan
Deputy Finish ambassador to Serbia Aleksi Vakkuri said his country offered full support for Martti Ahtisaari’s Kosova status blueprint.
When asked about his country’s reaction to a hypothetical loss of 15 percent of its territory, Vakkuri declined to comment or discuss the details of the Ahtisaari plan, at the same time reiterating full backing for it.
Vakkuri said he was not the right person to offer comments on the possible consequences of a Russian veto in the UN Security Council, but added that such political misunderstandings happened every day, and advised patience awaiting the outcome of events.
